Engr. Juanito “John” A. Simon
In the mid 80’s out of the shadows of the tail-end of the economic depression in the country, there emerged a young but determined lubrication scientist from Apalit, Pampanga – Engr. Juanito “John” A. Simon.
While studying mechanical engineering, early on in Mr. Simon’s life, he immersed himself in the pursuit of activities closely related to metallurgy or the science and technology of metals. This included steel fabrication and machine shop and welding technologies.
He got the opportunity to travel to the United States and later landed a job as a researcher in an international oil company in Houston, Texas where he learned and mastered the science of lubrication technology and tribology, the study of friction.
Gifted with an inventive and inquisitive mind, Engr. Simon probed deeper into the chemical composition, properties and limitations of industrial lubricants and the causes of wear and tear of engines while working in Houston. He then zeroed in on friction of metal parts inside internal combustion engines for automotive and industrial engines.
Aside from friction, he also discovered the other factors that caused the breakdown of engines and the contamination and deterioration of the quality of lubricants. These are namely heat, abrasion, corrosion, impact, oxidation and sludge formation.
As a result he developed, perfected and patented his lubricant technology invention which he named PERTUA (inspired by the Italian words, “FOR YOU/R”), the world’s first and only true oil and metal treatment.
Engr. Simon was recognized and accepted as an international inventor when he got the patent for his technology from the United States Patent Office in 1995, the first and only Filipino lubrication technology invention to date to have a U.S patent. That same year, he received the “Most Outstanding Energy Manager” award from the Department of Energy and Energy Management Association of the Philippines. In 2008, he was also cited by the Filipino Inventors Society as “Most Outstanding Inventor”.
A former director and one-time national vice president of the Filipino Inventors Society (FIS), Mr. Simon is also a member of the Society of Tribologists and Lubrication Engineers (based in Chicago, Illinois), the Los Angeles Science and Technology Council. He was also consultant at the PNP Directorate of Research and Development (1995) and was “Most Outstanding Club President” of the Rotary International District 3780 when he was president of the Rotary Club San Francisco del Monte (RCSFDM) from 2010 to 2011.
Today, Engr. Leads both his manufacturing and principal distribution companies both locally and abroad.
